6. Step by step guide

This guide assumes you downloaded all of the above files

  1. Create a new directory where you want Q3 installed and inside it create /baseq3/ directory where you put pak0.pk3
    C:\Quake III Arena\baseq3\pak0.pk3
  2. Run Point Release 1.32 and direct it to your Q3 directory
  3. Put /cpma/ directory in your Q3 one
  4. Put z-cpma-pak148.pk3 in Quake III Arena/cpma/
Note: some servers might not allow it, just rename it or move out of /cpma/ directory if you want to downgrade CPMA
  5. Put all maps that you have inside /baseq3/ directory
  6. Create q3key (no extension) file in your /baseq3/ directory and enter your CD Key there
  7. Put config files in /cpma/cfg/
Note: whenever you apply some changes in-game, use /writeconfig q3config command to make sure they’re saved
  8. Optional: create autoexec.cfg in /cpma/ with the following content:
    exec cfg/default.cfg

7. Additional Notes

For Challenge Quake 3 1.46 (cnq3.exe) users:

  • sensitivity has been renamed to m_speed
  • Changing resolution:
    • r_mode 0 - resolution and color depth are the same as desktop
    • r_mode 1 - custom to be set with r_width & r_height
